Subthemes allow a brand’s tokens to be overriden for certain contexts

In a user interface, specific sections such as Teasers or highlighted areas can be enhanced using subthemes. These designated sections are treated with unique styles, such as distinct colors or fonts, to emphasize and distinguish them.

All while maintaining the standard usage of our tokens in these elements, without the need for namespacing, prefixes, masking, suffixes, or any additional modifications.

Since chameleon v4 we refactored our design token setup to have this ability to override tokens in such contexts. We call this ability: subthemes.

The way to apply these contexts in your app or website is specific to the platform on which you are using Chameleon.
